In light of the recent big money scandal making headlines involving Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, maybe it’s time to take a long hard look at the influence money may have on the U.S. Judicial System. Starting with the highest court of the land.

Quippy pop culture references aside, money’s influence on our institutions has had a resoundingly powerful and truly awful effect. Far too often we see the interests of the monied few being met at the expense of the penniless rest of us. Sometimes to a rather brutal degree, just ask the citizens of Flint, Michigan or the hundreds of thousands who’ve been poisoned by Dupont’s teflon coated frying pans over the years.

But what about one of our most vital and sacred of institutions, the U.S. Supreme Court?
