The morality of U.S. society is a constant ebb and flow, from the righteous to the despicable. Our leaders talk of peace while handing out billions of taxpayer dollars to weapons manufacturers. We pride ourselves on being the land of the free while our incarceration numbers are some of the highest in the world. This ongoing moral hypocrisy is on full display in the fight over whether children should be able to eat for free while attending public school.

Recently the state of Minnesota became only the fourth state in the entire U.S. of A to provide free lunches to public school kids. When signing the bill MN Gov. Walz stated…

“As a former teacher, I know that providing free breakfast and lunch for our students is one of the best investments we can make to lower costs, support Minnesota's working families, and care for our young learners and the future of our state,”

Yes, there are only four states who actually provide a free lunch or breakfast to public school students. Shocking and sad. One would think this would be a no brainer kind of policy. A kid can’t study if he’s hungry. It makes no sense when a child’s education, books, and school desk are all paid for by the state, that we then turn around and bill that child and their family for the food they eat as a student?

A long time ago we decided that a basic education is right for all U.S. children, how does a basic healthy meal also not fall under that?
